Manila, Philippines — A week after the tragic shooting incident in a school in Tacloban City, similar threats of violent acts have been reported in other schools around the country.
Aside from the threats, the alarming part is that like in Tacloban, perpetuators seem to be minors.
In Batangas City Integrated High School, classes and on site school activities on Monday, June 29, have been suspended over threats of mass shooting.
Based on the school’s Disaster Risk Reduction Management’s advisory, the suspension is part of the precautionary measure to ensure the safety and security of the school community after such threats.
Everyone was likewise advised to not enter the school during the suspension, while the school management have been in coordination with authorities.
Batangas Component City Police Station said that the official page of the school received a message from a dummy account with threats of shooting and stabbing.
The anonymous sender claimed to be a Grade 10 student who was allegedly a victim of bullying.
BCPS assured that the SWAT team is posted outside the school to ensure the safety and security.
In an official statement later in the afternoon, after coordination with authorities, Batangas City Integrated High School announced that the premises are safe.
The regular classes will also resume on Tuesday, June 30, while security monitoring continues.
The school called on the public to only rely with official announcements and avoid spreading unverified information.
It likewise warned against online threats as these are serious offenses and involved individuals are punishable with disciplinary sanction under existing laws.—Mia Layaguin, Eurotv News
