Manila, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) Anti-Kidnapping Group (AKG) on Thursday confirmed that the four suspects killed in an encounter in Parañaque City were former police officers who had been dismissed from the service.
During a press briefing at Camp Crame, AKG Director PBGen. Glicerio Cansilao stated that while the four suspects were rushed to the hospital, they were declared dead on arrival. One operative was also wounded during the encounter but is currently in stable condition.
Following the safe rescue of the 79-year-old victim, the PNP leadership praised the AKG for the successful operation. According to the PNP, the primary objective was to recover the victim safely—a goal achieved through close coordination and continuous monitoring.
The National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) also commended the personnel, emphasizing the duty of the police to protect the lives and dignity of Filipinos.
NAPOLCOM Vice Chair Rafael Calinisan asserted that the incident serves as a reminder that kidnapping remains a serious threat requiring constant vigilance. He added that the Commission remains committed to its mandate of strengthening and building the capacity of the commission to ensure that operations are responsive, accountable, and professional.
Meanwhile, the PNP is continuing its investigation into a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) found parked on Adriatico St., Brgy. 720, Malate, Manila. The vehicle is believed to have been used in the encounter between the AKG and the four suspects.
Authorities recovered the following items from the vehicle are verified police uniforms Firearms and ammunition Cash License plates and conduction stickers.
