Manila, Philippines — A second impeachment complaint has been filed against Vice President Sara Duterte, focusing solely on betrayal of public trust due to the alleged misuse of Office of the Vice President (OVP) funds.
The new complaint was submitted today, Wednesday, December 4 afternoon, to the House of Representatives, following an earlier one that accused Duterte of graft, bribery, and other serious offenses.
The second complaint was backed by over 70 individuals from various left-leaning organizations.
It was endorsed by the Makabayan bloc, with lawmakers such as Reps. Raoul Manuel (Kabataan Partylist), Arlene Brosas (Gabriela Partylist) and France Castro (ACT Teachers Partylist).
During a press conference, former Bayan Muna Rep. Neri Colmenares explained that betrayal of public trust was chosen as the sole ground because it encompasses all the alleged violations against the VP, especially the misuse of confidential and intelligence funds from the OVP.
He added that limiting the charges to one could expedite the proceedings.
