Vice President Sara Duterte has resigned from her position as Secretary of the Department of Education and Vice Chairperson of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC).
After submitting her resignation in Malacañang, the Vice President held a press conference.
“Ang aking pagbibitiw ay hindi lulan ng kahinaan, kundi dala ng tunay na malasakit para sa ating mga guro at kabataang Pilipino.”
[My resignation is not a sign of weakness but stems from genuine concern for our teachers and Filipino youth.]
According to VP Duterte, although she is no longer in her position in the Department of Education, she will continue to be a maternal figure advocating for the rights of every teacher and student in the Philippines.
“Bagamat hindi ako magpapatuloy na mamahala sa Kagawaran ng Edukasyon, patuloy pa rin nating itataguyod ang kalidad ng edukasyon na nararapat para sa mga Pilipino.” Duterte stated.

As she stepped down, she expressed gratitude to all those who served the department, from the highest to the lowest positions, for their support in establishing the programs under her leadership.
Duterte also thanked partner organizations, the national government, local government units, and non-government organizations that have been promoting education projects.
“Ano mang kwento, kahit gaano kaganda ay sadyang nagtatapos rin (Whatever story, no matter how good, still comes to an end). Earlier today, June 19, 2024, I sought an audience with the President and tendered my resignation as the Secretary of Education effective July 19, 2024,” Vice President said.
Duterte did not reveal the real reason for her resignation.
In her resignation letter, she mentioned that it would be effective after July 19, following her 30-day transition period for nine strands within the central office.
She will remain as Vice President of the country.
