Manila Philippines — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visited the country, following the invitation of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
President Marcos and Zelensky agreed to further strengthening the diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Ukraine that were established 32 years ago.
Zelensky also announced their plans to open an embassy in the Philippines this year.
“I am also very happy that this year we will open an embassy in Manila,” said Zelensky during the meeting with President Marcos at the Malacañang Palace.
Zelensky thanked Marcos for his unwavering support to Ukraine in the midst of the issue facing European countries.
Marcos, on the other hand, considers the opening of the Embassy of Ukraine in Manila as good news, and said his administration is ready to help Zelensky’s plan.
“That’s certainly very good news because we would very much like to continue to help, in any way, that the Philippines can through the multilateral and United Nations and even through other agencies such as the EU, such as the UN,” said the President.
The Philippines and Ukraine agreed to promote peace and fight any conflict through political resolution between the two countries.
Also Marcos’ promised to obey the international rules-based order towards peace.
The relationship between the Philippines and Ukraine was established on April 7, 1992.
